In the Business

We've once again come 'round to that time of year when all retail businesses are trying to get a bit of the spotlight in the hopes that customers will buy their goods. Hey, we understand. We're a business too and we need to sell our GladRags to be able to keep on selling our GladRags.

The dilemma that we face is that we're generally down on consumption. If you take one look at our products - reusable menstrual products - you'll see that we're somewhat hardcore about this. But we gotta sell, right?

So maybe we should try to be more agressive in our selling…

Dang it's chilly out there. Git yer crotch warmers here, gals!

ImageHow do you deal with the heavy flow?

Women of the heavy flow, this one's for you.

Have you checked out our night pads? They are long and super absorbent with a layer of terrycloth in the holder itself. Women who have an extra heavy flow use these pads and feel protected on those flood-like days.

Having spoken for years with our amazing customers, we know how creative they can be. We may have designed GladRags to work in a certain way, but that doesn't stop women from bending the rules and we love it! Some women even couple a day pad with a night pad - snap over snap - just for a little added security.

So, what do you do to cover yourself when the deluge strikes? Do you couple up your GladRags? Do you sleep on a towel? What are the tricks of the trade? If you have a stellar suggestion, maybe GladRags will look into making a new product :)

Thanks for the feedback. We'll post the tips as helpful advice on our blog, GladRags Gab.

Stocking Stuffers People!

What to put in the stocking this year…

Mmm… something fairly small, definitely useful, a conversation starter…

I got it!

GladRags Pantyliners, Keeper Cups, Moon Cups and Sea Sponge Tampons.

Perfect.

You know what, why wait for the stocking, heck some of us don't celebrate Christmas. We officially declare a Menstrual Alternative holiday for:

January 1st!

Ok, so this might be New Year's Day, but the two holidays coincide beautifully. You've got big plans for 2008, make GladRags a part of that plan :) We'll be talking more about this in January's newsletter.

Image Bleeding in Africa

For the past two years, many individuals and organizations have contacted GladRags regarding a largely publicized issue afflicting many communities in sub-Saharan Africa. For many reasons, young girls are unable to and do not want to attend school during the days they are menstruating. These days can add up to a 10-20 percent absenteeism rate throughout a school year (http://allafrica.com/stories/200710120286.html). Clearly, this absenteeism leads to missing a great amount of information being taught and is generally disruptive to a girl's scholastic experience.

The many reasons that girls face this obstacle include lack of sanitized water, restroom facilities, underwear, and, the missing product for which GladRags is contacted, menstrual pads. Also, the topic of menstruation is often taboo in many of these cultures, which makes it difficult for girls to openly arrive at a community solution to this life condition. Another important obstacle that many news outlets and Western organizations fail to consider when contemplating this issue is an absence of a waste disposal system to deal with the disposable pads that have been proposed as a solution and what the creation of such a system would mean.

So, given these many hurdles to overcome, what is the answer?

Funny Anecdotes
On the advice of my aunt, I give my houseplants a nutritious treat by watering them with the water I've soaked my GladRags in. Mmmmmm.
