Carousel of Time

Here we find ourselves in 2008.

That's a nice round number. Look at those circular curves, reminding us of the cyclical nature of life. That "8" is a visual showcase of infinity and interconnectivity. 2008 will be a truly profound year. You heard it here. GladRags predicts BIG things for this next year and not just menstrually speaking either - though menstrual alternatives sales will skyrocket and more women than ever will be using them. And we are hoping many other such postitive, groundbreaking happenings await us. Here at the 'Rags we're going to try to walk our talk even more and to that end we've made a sustainablity pledge for 2008.

We look forward to riding the wave of change with you, dear readers, customers, friends, supporters and generally awesome people.

Cycling through life,
The GladRags Team

ImageHappy Menstrual Alternatives Day!

So, how are you going to spend January 1st- the day we at GladRags have deemed Menstrual Alternatives Day?!

It's a wonderful time for reflection and planning. We ask ourselves: What have I accomplished in 2007 and what are my aspirations for 2008? How am I living and how could I live better? Did I tell someone I loved them today?

Besides the common resolutions to eat healthier and exercise more, many women become ready to make the full-fledged switch to reusables when Menstrual Alternatives Day rolls around. They see women in the streets throwing their GladRags in the air with howls of delight at the money they are saving - jumping with joy because they are helping the planet with their sustainable thinking. Passing through halls decked with traditional Keeper Cup garlands and Sea Sponge wreaths, the alternative menstrual spirits fills them in a way they've never felt and soon they're filling their shopping carts with not only healthy organic food and but also with GladRags for themselves and all their friends.

Ok, we're carried away with the spirit of jest and goodwill toward all things menstrual this year. But seriously, GladRags has a pantyliner special going on until January 31st. Spread the word!

Miracle Diapers

It's really nice just to be able to give something away to a group of people who are happy to receive a donation. We don't have to set foot in a shop (except to drop off the donation) and we know it's appreciated.

When we discontinued selling Organic Cotton diapers we were left with 400 preemie size diapers in stock. We wanted them put to good use and a local cloth diaper manufacturer here in Portland suggested donating the diapers to Miracle Diapers. What a great solution!

Miracle Diapers began right here in Oregon as an organization that provides cloth diapers and other natural products for struggling families. So often it is the people who are strapped for funds who are least likely to have the opportunity to take advantage of natural products. We think it's great that Miracle Diapers exists and that we were able to help out.

Number of years/months using menstrual alternatives
2 years

Reason for switching to alternatives
I wanted to reduce and reuse and didn't want to spend money on tampons or pads anymore. The Keeper saves space when i travel and it sure has a pretty carrying case.

Favorite thing about alternatives
Chat about menstrual alternatives often leads to great conversations about sustainability.

Funny Anecdotes
Gladrags offers "pro deals"! I worked on a sailboat crew this summer, and GladRags agreed to be the official menstrual pad for the female crew. Alas, the season ended before the deal got worked out but the women at the "Rags" are up for a sporting adventure!
